About the Job:
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting analytical and physical tests on metal powders to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications. This role involves working with various types of metal powders, maintaining laboratory equipment and recording data accurately.
Key Responsibilities:
· Prepare metal powder samples for testing.
· Perform standard and specialized tests per ASTM, AMS or customer standards for metal powders characteristics such as particle size distribution, density measurements and chemical analysis.
· Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, such as microscopes, sieves and spectrometers, ONH and CS analyzers (Leco or Eltra) particle size analyzers.
· Record test results accurately and maintain detailed logs.
· Analyze data to ensure consistency with quality standards per relevant specifications.
· Prepare reports, summarizing findings and observations.
· Perform tests in compliance with established protocols and industry standards.
· Identify and report deviations from quality standards and assist in troubleshooting/resolving quality issues related to metal powders.
· Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment for accurate and reliable results.
· Comply with relevant regulations and standards in handling and disposing of metal powders.
· Collaborate with other laboratory technicians, engineers and quality control team members on improving testing methods and protocols, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required and Preferred Experience and Skills, Education Qualifications
· Associate’s degree or higher in Chemistry, materials science or related field.
· Relevant certifications or additional training in laboratory techniques is a plus.
· Previous experience in a laboratory setting, particularly with metal powders, is a plus.
· Familiarity with laboratory equipment and testing procedures.
· Must be proficient in using laboratory instruments and software.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements of the role
· The position is based in a manufacturing facility, including loud noises, moving mechanical parts and exposure to metal powders.
· Work hours may include shifts, weekends and holidays as needed to meet production demands.
· Strict adherence to safety protocols is required to minimize risks associated with handling hazardous materials.
· The role requires wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe shoes, protective eyewear, earplugs and respiratory equipment (when working with metal powders).
· Must have capacity to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
